IntroducingThe Terra Rubra Lions

Terra Rubra means "red earth" in Latin, and refers to the distinctive red soil in northwest Carroll County, Maryland. It's also the name of the estate in nearby Keysville where Francis Scott Key, author of The Star-Spangled Banner, was born in 1779.

The Terra Rubra Lions are a group of your neighbors who have come together to serve our community. Our club was chartered in 1966, and since then we've been offering a wide range of services to Carroll County, including college scholarships, vision assistance, loans of convalescent equipment, youth athletic programs, and much more.

We are proud to serve the rural Carroll and Frederick County communities of Keysville, Keymar, Bruceville, Rocky Ridge, Detour, Ladiesburg, and Middleburg.

The motto of Lions Clubs International is We Serve. At Terra Rubra, service to our neighbors goes hand-in-hand with having a great time!

What's New

Our 2024 Events Calendar is ready, and we're back in full swing. You'll see all of your favorite events like our Crab Feeds, Golf Tournament, Sportsman's Raffle, Car Show and lots of others. We're now also offering drive-through service for our Crabapaloozas. And don't forget our ever-popular events for the kids ... the super-fun Easter Egg Hunt and Visit with Santa (both free of charge). Check the Web pages for the individual events for details.

Calendar

You'll probably notice that the ticket prices for some of our events have gone up a little since last year. Unfortunately, costs for everything from the food we serve to the electricity that keeps our lights on are going up, and to make sure that we can continue to meet our commitment to serve our neighbors in need, we've had to respond with some modest changes in what we charge for tickets to some (but not all) of our fund-raising events. Thanks for your understanding, and we hope you will continue to support the Terra Rubra Lions as you always have.

Our Mission

The Terra Rubra Lions are committed to serving our neighbors in need without regard to race, age, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, or religious creed. We follow the Lions Clubs International Code of Ethics, and we seek to improve the lives of all of those whom we touch.
