Meeting Notes
Monday, November 3
Attendance:
We met at 6:30 p.m. at Middleburg Park. Once again, we enjoyed a wonderful carry-in pot luck dinner. We had 18 members and 2 guests present for the evening. Our guests were Krystal Trump and Zone Chairman Wayne Sherfey. Krystal served as Honorary Tail Twister for the evening.
Health & Welfare:
Lion Linda’s mom was still in the hospital.
Reports:
Lion Beth reminded us that our next meeting would be at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster and sent around a sign up sheet for members to attend.
Lion Shelbe Stambaugh reported our final figures on our Basket Bingo held in September. She puts a lot of time and effort into this fund raiser and does a great job with it.
Lion Larry Gray said that he will post the winning Peace Poster on our web site.
Lion Linda Bowers reported that we received 52 units of blood during the blood drive in October.
Lions Terry Grable and Larry Stambaugh reported from the building committee that we are ready for the next step.
Jim Bednark with “Rite of Passage” spoke with us regarding the reopening of Bowling Brook School and getting community feedback to find out how people of the community felt.
Business:
We approved a donation to the Woodsboro/New Midway Elementary Caring Fund and to the Union Bridge Church of the Brethren Early Learning Center.
We had some suggestions of possible recipients of our “Christmas Family in Need” donation for this year. President Sharon reviewed the Poinsettia and Fruit Basket list with the club.
The 50-50 Drawing with a value of $11.00 was won by Lion Dick Bowers and he donated it back to the Building fund. President Sharon adjourned the meeting at 8:45 p.m.
Monday, November 17
Attendance:
We met at 6:00 p.m. at Carroll Hospital Center. We had 15 members in attendance. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the Conference Room followed by a power point presentation about the hospital complex and its operation. We were then taken on a tour of the surgical rooms and recovery area. It was very interesting and enjoyed by all in attendance.
The Terra Rubra Lions will once again be hosting the "American Heritage Essay contest" with New Midway/Woodsboro Elementary School and we will also be participating in the "Lions" category of the contest. The topic for the Elementary School is "Select an early American (Pre 1850, male or female, and describe what they did to preserve our heritage." The topic for Lions is "As members of Lions International, we can best preserve our heritage and patriotism by...". We encourage all Terra Rubra Lions to participate. We have talented members in our club and would like to see several essays submitted. Essays must be minimum of 300 words (Maximum of 500), typed double spaced. Your name, home address, phone, and Club must be in the upper left-hand corner of the essay. Essays will be due by 1/5/09. If you have any questions, see Chairman Beth.
